Capital Community College Partnership

Communication Students On the Air as Part of Unique Community Partnership…

Students of Capital’s Communication Media degree program are building their resumes with production experience on “El Show de Analeh,” a Spanish-language talk show that focuses on issues in the Latino community. The program, which began in 2007, is hosted by Capital alumna Ana Alfaro and broadcasts on Univision, cable TV channel 18 in Hartford, reaching most of the state of Connecticut and Western MA. This is a unique partnership, that began in 2006 with the college’s Academic Media Technology Department, students in the Communication Media program help produce segments for “El show” in the college’s TV studio, both as part of their in-class assignments and as an extra-curricular activity. The show features guest interviews recorded in the Capital studio and on-location reports from in and around the viewership territory.  Program themes center around local community leaders, civic and community topics in the news, arts and culture, business, and government. Students in Capital’s Communication Media major serve as studio crew members, on-location camera operators, and video editors. Some have even worked as Production Assistants for a semester to fulfill their internship requirements.

“I’m truly proud and honored of the El Show de Analeh production team, our founders, our partners and friends, for believing and supporting our dream, creativity, passion and vision of empowering, engaging and informing the Latino community through the art of television.  Our vision is to continue to encourage our people to take action on issues that matter the most, such as education, healthy living, financial goals, civic engagement, entrepreneurship and overall life goals and accomplishments.”

“Capital Community College is proud to partner with Ana Alfaro on the production of El Show de Analeh for all of these years.  This partnership has provided our students with real world experience that has led to many having meaningful careers in the television production industry.  Capital looks forward to continuing the partnership and the next generation of students that will benefit from this model relationship.” - Duncan Harris, CEO, Capital Community College
